Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Vancouver's Community Infrastructure | Reuters

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Mar 08 (MARKET WIRE) --Today, Andrew Saxton, Parliamentary Secretary to the President of theTreasury Board and for Western Economic Diversification, and Member ofParliament for North Vancouver, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich,Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced supportfor the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver under the HarperGovernment's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF). "I am proud to see Vancouver residents benefit from our Government'ssupport for community infrastructure," said MP Saxton. "This investmentwill help create jobs and growth, and will support the prosperity of thecommunity for years to come." The Harper Government's investment of $96,332 will enhance the servicesprovided by the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver. The fundingwill be used to improve the Centre by replacing the roof, renovating thewashrooms, painting the interior, install a new LED lighting system, andrefinishing the auditorium floor. The Centre will also replace thecondensing units in the museum. "We are very pleased to receive this needed fund in helping us upgradeour buildings." said Mike Jang, Chairperson of Chinese Cultural Centre ofGreater Vancouver. "For sure, the renovated facilities will greatlybenefit the people of community and its surrounding area, and enhance thecross-culture activities in our multi-culture society." In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced furthersupport to help communities across the country modernize theirinfrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years forthe Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existingcommunity infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such ascommunity centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural andother community facilities.
